Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Audit:

A HERS energy rating is a more involved than a Home Energy Assessment. A HERS rating can be used in several ways:

• When seeking an Energy Star Certification
  
  
• When required to qualify for an Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM) or an Energy Improvement Mortgage.
  
  
• To develop very specific “what if” analyses on improvements to demonstrate the cost effectiveness of the various design or building components.  We use RESNET software as a modeling tool to understand the impact on energy costs due to a change in building orientation, adding windows or doors, etc.

A HERS rating can be performed on either a proposed or an existing home. This type of Audit requires entering data from your home into a computer program to create a model. The model software is a sophisticated system tested and authorized by the US Department of Energy for HERS Raters.

C.A.R.E. – Property Services has certified RESNET raters providing unbiased third-party HERS ratings. The home’s HERS “score” is used to compare it against national and international codes and standards for its level of energy efficiency.  Some view the HERS score as similar to the Energy Guide label found on new appliances or the fuel efficiency sticker (mpg) on the window of a new car.
